A coalition of Civil Society groups, comprising National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS), and Community for defense of Human Rights(CDHR), as
well as security agencies in Ogun state have denounced the ongoing EndSARS campaign
on social media, stating that campaigners had ulterior motives.
The civil societies made the call in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital on Friday.
NANS and CDHR unanimously agreed that there are bad eggs in the Federal Special Anti-Robbery squad who perpetuate injustice, but argued that the squad needed reformation, and not total scrapping.
The National Secretary, CDHR, Comrade Yinka Folarin credited the FSARS
in Ogun state for the peace and serenity enjoyed in the state, saying the squad "is a good example of what a police formation should be."
"What we are saying is that there should be holistic reorganization and restructuring which is not by ranking.
"The SARS in Ogun state have subjected themselves to sleepless night to make sure that our eyes are open."
He accused the EndSARS campaigners of trying to intimidate the Inspector General of Police into granting their wish.
"IGP should not be intimidated by some demonic campaigns for EndSARS."
Folarin said.
The NANS National PRO, Okereafor Best-man Opeyemi on his part urged
the IGP to reorganise the squad and weed the bad eggs therein.
Opeyemi said bad eggs are not peculiar to FSARS and NPF, but spread across other professions. Hence, SARS deserved no Crucifixion.
His words, "we are aware of the injustices perpetuated by some bad eggs in FSARS. All professions have bad eggs.
"We are calling on the IGP to restructure the SARS and fish out the bad eggs."
The EndSARS Campaign has flooded the social media earlier since last week as
Nigerians narrate their ordeal with operatives of FSARS.
Some of the allegations on twitter highlights maltreatment, abuse of human rights, and extra judicial killings by SARS officials.

However, Security agencies in Ogun state, which
include Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and Vigilante Service of
Ogun state (VSO) also decried the outcry, positing that it is extravagant and
unpatriotic.
The Commander of VSO, Soji Ganzallo acknowledged the synergy between the vigilante and FSARS Operatives while arguing that, "the role of FSARS in curbing crimes cannot be overemphasized.
"The synergy that exists between FSARS and other security agencies in Ogun has paid off."
The PCRC, Ogun state command in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Olaniyan also took exception to the EndSARS campaign.
Olaniyan hailed the state commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu and the Operation Commander, OC SARS, DSP Uba Adams for their cooperation in Combating crimes in the state.
He referred to FSARS as a "specialized crime fighting organ of the Nigerian police," which according to him must not be scrapped.
"The giant strides recorded in crime bursting and fighting leading to Ogun state having one of the lowest crime rate is as a result of the synergy between the state government, the Police force and the community.” He said.
